Funeral Mass for Patricia L. (DeMoss) Campbell, 79, of Waverly and formerly of Shell Rock, who died Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Waverly, was held Tuesday, May 11, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly.
Rev. Michael Tauke officiated at the services. Music was provided by Ruth Schluter, organist, Kara Groen, vocalist, and the St. Mary’s
Parish Choir. Interment was at the Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Pallbearers were Campbell, Lyman Campbell, Matthew Campbell, William Campbell, James Campbell, and T. Bruce Ecker.
Patricia was born on March 15, 1925, in Des Moines, the daughter
of Lyman and Genevieve (Williams) DeMoss. She lived with her family on a farm east of Red Rock, near Otley.
She attended country school there until the 5th grade when her family moved to Knoxville where she graduated from Knoxville High School in 1943.
She attended radio school in Omaha, Neb. Where she graduated as a qualified radio inspector for the United States Navy. She then moved to Cedar Rapids and worked in Civil Service as a naval inspector for navy transmitters at Collins Radio.
July 17, 1945 she married John F. (Jack) Campbell in St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Lodi, N.J. She then gave up her position at the Collins Radio Company and started her family.
The family made their home in Knoxville and later moved to several communities including Vernon, N.J., Red Rock, Lovilia, Gilbertville, and Albia. In 1984 they moved to Vida, Ore. Staying there until 1989 when they moved to Waverly and a year later to Shell Rock.
Since moving back to this area, Pat had been working part-time for her son and daughter-in-law, Lyman and Cyndi, at Ecker’s
Greenhouse in Waverly. Pat and John have been living at the Waverly Homes. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. She enjoyed gardening and was very fond of the girls (Millie and Cissy).
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Rosemary Campbell in 1988. She is survived by her husband, John (Jack) of Waverly; five sons and their spouses, John and Pam Campbell, Lyman Campbell and Cyndi Ecker, all of Waverly, Matthew and Marcia Campbell of Shell Rock, William Campbell of Albia, and James and Shelly Campbell of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
