Roy McCullough – Roy was born on Oct. 2, 1938, on a farm outside of Moulton, to Fountain
D. and Gertrude (Bogle) McCullough. The family moved to Knoxville when Roy was in
school and he graduated from Knoxville High School, class of 1956.

Roy served in
the U.S. Air Force from 1957-61 and after an honorable discharge, joined the Knoxville
Police Department. In 1962 he began to work for the Veterans Administration Medical
Center as a nurse's assistant, later a firefighter, then police officer and retired
in 1994 as chief of police.

Roy married Sue Jorgensen on June 1, 1962, and their
46-year marriage was blessed with two children, Sean and Shannon. While working
at the Veterans Hospital and raising his family, Roy began taking night courses
in Criminal Justice at Simpson College. He graduated from Simpson in 1979 and counseled
youths during the 1970's and 1980's for Our Primary Purpose.

During his lifetime
Roy was a member of the Knoxville Police Auxiliary and First Baptist Church in Knoxville.
He enjoyed wildlife, fishing, golfing, and working outside in the yard. Roy especially
loved his family and playing with his grandchildren. He will be forever remembered
as a model friend, husband, dad and papa.

Roy passed away on February. 4, 2009,
at his home in Knoxville, at the age of 70. In addition to his parents, Roy is preceded
in death by one sister, Diane Van Essen and a great niece, Kayla Boner. Roy is survived
by his wife, Sue of Knoxville; two children, Sean Tyler (Lisa) McCullough of Polk
City, and Shannon Kristine McCullough of West Des Moines; four grandchildren, he
is also survived by one sister, Lou Carter of Knoxville; and several nieces and
nephews.

A graveside funeral service with military rites was held February 9, at
the Iowa Veterans Cemetery 34024 Veterans Drive, Adel. The Reverend Tom Wheeler
officiated. In lieu of flowers memorials will be accepted by the family. Condolences
