Services for Mabel Faye (Smith) Gill, 82, of Melcher-Dallas, who died Oct. 12, 1990, at the Pleasant Care Home in Pleasantville, were held October 15 at the Mosher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas.

Interment was in Dallas Cemetery in Melcher-Dallas. Rev. Lynn Elrod officiated the services. Music was provided by organist JoAnn Luksetich.

Pallbearers were Steven Smith, Kevin Rastofer, Greg Krueger, Kevin Durham, Criag Durham and Sid Pounds.

Gill was born 1908, in rural Marion County. She was a retired school teacher. She taught at rural schools in Lucas and Marion Counties. She also taught in Dallas and in Ankeny.

Her family, garden and home were the centers of her life. Her homemade bread, cinnamon rolls and ” pigs in a blanket” were always a favorite of her grandchildren.

She was a longtime member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Melcher-Dallas. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the retired teachers association.
She was preceded in death by a son John; two brothers Joe and Worth Smith.

She was survived by her husband Alvin “Deed” Gill; two daughters, Mrs. Hershal (Rachel) Durham of Romeo, Mich. And Mrs. Howard (Billie) Smith of Urbandale; seven grandchildren
and eight great-grandchildren. One brother, Hugh Smith of Chariton and three sisters, Elsie Mullins of Chariton, Norma Long of Melcher-Dallas and Eva Edwards of Des Moines; along with many nieces and nephews.
