Services for Todd Mathew Edwards, 27, of Knoxville, who died Sept. 11, 1990, at Mercy
Hospital in Des Moines, were held Sept. 14 at St. Anthony’s Church. EvansMcCleery
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The interment was in Graceland Cemetery.
Revs. Tom Braak and Philip Cardenzana officiated at the services. Music was provided
by Mary Stults, organist, and St. Anthony’s Choir. Pallbearers were Laverne Armstrong,
Robert Jordan, Bill Kessel, John Edwards, Mike Kelderman, and Eddy Joe Murphy.
Mr.
Edwards was born Aug. 27, 1963, at Albia, the son of Tom and Mary Lou Mitchell Edwards.
He lived in Pleasantville until moving to a farm in Knoxville when he was six.
Graduating
from Knoxville High School in 1982, he was involved in many sports including wrestling
1978-79, football 1980-81, and baseball 1981-82.
He was a lifeguard and instructor
for the Knoxville Recreation Department for many years. In May 1989 he graduated
from Northeast Missouri State University with a bachelor of science degree in physical
education. He was also a member of Phi Lambda Chi National Fraternity in Kirksville,
Mo.
On March 13, 1990, he joined the Catholic Church at St. Henry’s Church in Marshalltown
in preparation for his future marriage: He is survived by his fiance, Amy Kessel
of Marshalltown; his parents of Knoxville; one brother, Tom of Knoxville; one sister,
Tami Shinn of Knoxville; one niece and one nephew, Amy and Tommy Edwards; two half
sisters, Sandra Wallace of Conifer, Colo. and Shirley Culver of Greeley, Colo. and
other nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established for the Todd Edwards Memorial
Scholarship Fund for Physical Education at Knoxville High School.
Died of a brain tumor Tuesday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center.
