Services for Roger Ellsworth Batten, 65, who died May 6, 1994, at KACH, were held May 9, at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
The Reverend Melvin Mattox officiated. Music was provided by Darlene Mooberry, organist, and vocalist Jim Kidder.
Pallbearers were Buck Bacus, Carroll De Zwarte, Ernest Rankin, Melvin Sams, Jeff Sinnard and Merle Vickroy.
Roger was born October 21, 1928, near Knoxville, the son of Ira and Inez Kirkpatrick Batten.
He was a life-long resident of Knoxville and a 1946 graduate of Knoxville High School.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy La Von Kingery July 1, 1950, and the couple made their home in Knoxville. He was employed for a time at the Firestone Rubber Company in Des Moines, the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville.
He retired in 1987 after 25 years of service with Iowa Electric Light and Power Company. He then worked part-time for the Knoxville Community School District.
He was a member of the Iowa National Guard for 32 years, and retired as a Sargeant 1st Class. He also was a member of the Knoxville Faith Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ralph. He is survived by his wife; one son, D.J. of Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Linda Jerkins, of Knoxville; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Williams Funeral Home of Knoxville.
