Services for Robert Marion Gibbons, 84, of Pella, and formerly of Knoxville, who died March 16, 1990 at Pella Community Hospital, were held March 18 at Williams Funeral Home.
Interment was in Marysville Cemetery, Marion County.
Mr. Gibbons was born on Aug. 19, 1905 in Peoria, Ill., the son of Charles and Gladys Johnson Gibbons.
On Dec. 22, 1922, he married Irene Erickson.
He later worked at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Ill. On April 29, 1941, he married Margaret Faye Hall Light. They moved to Chicago where he was a machinist-foreman for the Rock Island Railroad.
He was preceded in death by his two wives, his parents, and infant daughter, Viriginia, and one sister.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Albert (Betty Jane) Bowe of Davenport; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Marion Allen, and one sister, Eva Seiler, both of Galesburg, Ill.
Rev. Donald Everhart officiated at the services. Music was provided by Jim Kidder, organist, and John Crawford, vocalist.
Pallbearers were Dale, Richard and Robert Hall, Kevin Kelderman, and Bruce and David Seiler.
He was raised in the Knoxville, III, area and graduated from Knoxville High School. Following graduation, he worked for the railroad at various towns including Silvis and Galesburg,
They returned to Davenport where he worked for Alcoa Aluminum Company from which he retired in 1967.
He moved to Knoxville and spent his retirement. He was a member of many organizations including Eagles, Moose Lodge, Kiwanis, Shrine, York Rite Bodies, Scottish Rite Bodies, Masons, Oriental Lodge #61 AF & AM, Za-Ga-Zig Temple, and KA-BAA Temple.
