Mary Martina “Mike” (Agan) Gartrell, 68, died Tuesday in a Las Vegas hospital, where she had undergone surgery for injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Caliente on July 30,1985.
A native of Knoxville, Iowa, she was born November 24, 1916. She was the daughter of John Abram Agan and Sivia Clara Sampson and had lived in Hawthorne for the past 31 years.
Mrs. Gartrell married her husband, Roy Lanning Gartrell on December 27, 1945.
They moved to Hawthorne when he accepted a position at the Hawthorne Naval Ammunition Depot.
Mr. Gartrell (1916 – 1967) preceded her in death.
Mrs. Gartrell was a third grade teacher in the Mineral County schools for more than 30 years.
She was a member of the National Education Association, Nevada State Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Mount Grant Chapter 24 Order of the Eastern Star, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hawthorn Ward.
Surviving are daughter Mary Gartrell Koscinski (b. October 21, 1947), and son Russell (b. October 26, 1948), both of Hawthorne; a daughter, Joan Wright of Everett Wash; and three grandchildren, Holy, Meagan and Matthew.
Funeral services were held Friday at the LDS Church, with burial following at Hawthorne Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Hawthorne Funeral Home.
