Funeral services for Alice Marie (Woody) Robinson, 76, of Knoxville, who died on Thursday,
October 2001 at Pella Regional Health Center, was held on Monday, October 15, at
First United Methodist Church in Knoxville.
Rev. Peter J. Peterson officiated at
the services. Music was pro-tided by Jim Kidder, pianist, and Katie Davis, vocalist.
Interment was at Breckenridge Cemetery. Casketbearers were Mike and Greg May, Bill
Mick, Kirk McCombs, Donnie Rodgers, and Wendell Robinson. Honorary casket bearers
were Jul. Sarah, Laura and Timothy Shepherd and Emily, Scott and Leland Sloan.
Marie was born on January 2, 1925, in Markin County, the daughter of Ray and Faye
(Pearson) Woody. She was raised in Knoxville and graduated with the class of 1943.
After graduation, she worked for the superintendent of schools. She then worked at
the Bellamy Telephone Company and for Iowa Power and Light.
She married Leland
Robinson on November 22, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union,
two daughters were born. Marie took time off from work to raise her family but went
back to work for the phone company when the girls were older. She retired from the
Contel Telephone Company in 1987 after 29 years of service. She entered the Griffin
Nursing Center on December 3, 1997, after suffering a stroke and has been there since.
The family was very important to Marie and she loved spending time with her children
and grandchildren. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a charter
member of the pioneer Phone Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband, Leland; and one grandchild. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law,
Kitty and Bill Shepherd and Anna and Pat Sloan, all of Knoxville; seven grandchildren;
a brother, Ken Woody of Knoxville; a sister, Gene McCombs of Knoxville; and many
other family members and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Breckenridge Cemetery
Association or First United Methodist Church Radio Ministry. Arrangements were made
by Bybee & Davis Funeral Home.
