Janet Virlea (Mason) Mohler, 70, of Knoxville passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Comfort House in Pella.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at Williams Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, also at Williams Funeral Home with Bill McDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.

Janet was born on October 4, 1940, in Monroe, Iowa to Dale and Mildred (Richards) Mason.

She grew up in the Knoxville area and graduated from Knoxville High School in the class of 1958. She then began working at Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Des Moines.

On December 19, 1959, she married Larry Mohler in Knoxville. Janet quit working in
Des Moines and began working at Bob & Rays Super-Valu. Janet worked in the store
for the next 20 years, starting in the meat department and eventually working in
all the areas of the store.

Many folks believed she was the social greeter because she never knew a stranger. Janet later began working at the Mater Clinic and then eventually onto the Knoxville Hospital working in housekeeping. Janet retired in 2007 from the hospital after 16 years of service. Janet enjoyed going to garage sales, flee markets, and of course watching her beloved Hawkeyes. She enjoyed word finds, gardening, and baking cookies, cakes, and cupcakes.

She loved being with and helping her many friends and family, walking with her husband Larry and friend Mary.
She also loved to attend her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.

Janet is survived by her husband Larry of Knoxville, IA; 5 daughters, Ronda Geery and
husband Clint of Knoxville, IA; Risa Rinehart of Virginia Beach, VA; Sherri CooperJanet Mason
and husband Mark of Cedar Rapids, IA; Brandi Findley and husband Dan of Knoxville, IA; Shawna Mohler of Tracy, IA; 1 son, Eric Mohler and wife Bridget of Bussey, IA; 9 grandchildren, Joseph Cooper, Dustin Rinehart, Jake Geery, Benjamin Cooper, Levi Pinegar, Sierra Findley, Dakota Pinegar, Madlyn Findley, and Ahren Mohler, 2 brothers, Jim Mason and Gary Mason.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
