Jack D. Allen, 66, died at Whitebreast Campground in Knoxville on August 20, 2017. Visitation was from Noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, August 27 at Iles Grandview Park Chapel concluding with a 2 p.m. Funeral Service.
Jack was born in Durham, IA on May 23, 1951, to Samuel and Ruby (Bailey) Allen. He lived around Knoxville until age 9 when he moved to Fort Meyers, FL. He returned to Knoxville at age 16 and attended Knoxville High School. He met Betty Bailey in 1985 then together they made a home in Des Moines. Betty and Jack were married in 1992 in Princeton, MO.
Jack worked for Carroll Auto Wrecking and then drove a truck for DeCarlo Demolition. He loved spending time at Whitebreast Campground and had volunteered there since his retirement in 2013. Jack enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, cooking outdoors in Dutch ovens, and smoking meat. He will be remembered as a good storyteller and prankster.
Those left to cherish Jack’s memory include his wife, Betty; children, Jeff (Christine) Bailey, Scott (Eileene) Bailey, Wendy (Kevin) Huss, Jamie (Jennifer) Bailey, Donna (Aaron) Bork, Amy and Stacy; 20 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Donna (Max) Parks of Knoxville, Patty Layman of Plano, TX and Sammy (Tommy) Smith of Oskaloosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Bobby, Darlene, and Jerry.
