Hazel was born on May 11, 1911 on the Loynachan family farm east of Knoxville in
Clay Township. She was the third child born to John and Nora (Ghrist) Loynachan.
Hazel was baptized and became a member at the nearby country church of Plymouth
Presbyterian where she remained a faithful contributing member until its closing
in 1967.

She attended country grade school at McMillan near her family farm and graduated
from Knoxville High School in 1929. On January 24, 1942 she married Harold Hollingshead
at her mother's Knoxville apartment. The couple lived in a home east of Knoxville
before moving into Knoxville in 1946.

Hazel spent a great number of years helping her sister-in-law at the Hollingshead
Flower Shop assisting with sales, deliveries, and some flower arranging.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed helping with the
activities of the Sarah Circle and the Homebuilders. As a granddaughter of a Civil
War veteran, she was a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans. She and Harold
enjoyed traveling in Canada and the Western United States.

Some of her fondest memories
were of trips to 16 different Elderhostels. Her grace and kindness was shown by
sending many cards and letters through the years to celebrate, encourage, or show
compassion.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000; parents; an infant sibling; and
a brother, Elton Loynachan.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Helen Loynachan of Pella; four nieces, Kathy
(Tom) Donnelly of Iowa City, Jane Ann (David) Bousfield of Iowa City, Kerrilyn (Allen)
Nunnikhoven of Oskaloosa, and Sherrilyn (Verlan) Nikkei of Pella; a nephew, Gary
(Suzanne) Hollingshead of Des Moines; seven great-nieces and four great-nephews.
