Harold Emory May, son of George W. May and Janetta Riddle May, was born, May 15, 1901, at Columbia, and died, February 2, 1955, at Brawley, Calif.
He was married to Lucille Van Niewaal, of Pella, November 29, 1928.
Most of his lifetime was spent in Columbia, where after his school days he worked in his father's store until on August 8, 1935, the fifty-sixth anniversary of his father going into business, Harold and his brother, Jim, purchased the store and continued as May Brothers until August, 1953, when Harold moved to California.
He was employed there with the Imperial Hardware company, which on last Friday, the store was closed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m in Harold's memory.
Harold was very active in the Brawley Methodist church where he was a member of the official board, a regular attendant at the church services, and the Methodist Men's organization. He still retained his membership in the Masonic Order at Columbia.
The deceased is survived by his widow, Lucille Van Niewaal May, and his daughter, Marcia June, a senior at U.C.L.A.; also four sisters, Erato Wood (Mrs. J.E.) who was spending the winter in Harold's home; Beneti Bridgeman (Mrs. H.L.), Cleo Whitlatch (Mrs. George), both of Knoxville, and Mr. Helen Wirene, his twin sister, of St. Joseph, Mo.; two brothers, Jim, of Columbia, and Tom of Estherville.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist church, Monday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. M.D. Summerbell, assisted by Rev. Paul M Hann. Interment was made in the Columbia cemetery.
