Francis Marion Kerr was born on August 22, 1927, in Knoxville, Iowa, to John and Maude Powers Kerr. He was raised in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School with the Class of 1947.
On October 16, 1948, he was married to Ardith L. Byers in Knoxville. The couple lived in Knoxville, Oskaloosa and Newton before moving to Grinnell in 1953. He worked in the Dietary, Building and Grounds and Security Departments of Grinnell College for 40 years.
He was an avid supporter of the American Cancer Society and he enjoyed traveling, woodworking, bowling and computers.
Francis died July 8, 2005, survivors include his children, Judith (Bob) Meythaler, Francis M.(Donnetta) Kerr Jr, Linda Kerr, James L. Kerr, and Theresa Wallace, all of Grinnell, Eileen Kerr and Ronald Kerr, both of Des Moines, Brian (Rachel) Kerr of O’Fallon, MO. and Rhonda (Greg) Foster of Altoona; 22 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1942; his father in 1985; his wife in 1990; two sons, Steven in 1964 and Garry in 2003; and two brothers, John and Richard Kerr.
