Cathryn Elizabeth (King) Woodle, was born on December 6, 1918, near Knoxville, Iowa to Clarence
Elwood and Beryl (Brooks) King. The King family lived and farmed on Long Lane, now 0-76.
They worshiped at the Olive Chapel Church in southern Marion County, where Cathryn professed her Christian faith as a young girl.
She graduated from Knoxville Community High School, in the class of 1935. Later that year Cathryn moved to the Chicago, IL loop area and a variety of different
jobs.
Her last profession there was as a legal secretary in 1946. Cathryn later returned to Knoxville and continued her career in the financial world of the then Community National Bank & Trust Company as an executive secretary until 1951.
Cathryn was united in marriage to Raymond Woodle on April 29, 1951, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union, one son was born.
Cathryn was a homemaker and resided with her husband, Raymond on the family farm south of Knoxville for 35 years until Raymond’s death on February 11, 1989.
She was an active and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of Knoxville. Cathryn was a member of the Progressive Garden Club and the Rummy Card Club.
Cathryn had resided at Locust Hill since 1996, an elder group home near Knoxville.
She passed away on October 10, 2004, within the Hospice Unit at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital, at the age of 85.
Cathryn is survived by her son, Park Raymond Woodle, and his wife Susan of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Robert Nathanael and Caroline Cathryn Woodle of Knoxville; one brother, E. Keith King of Springfield, MO; several nieces and nephews, Jay, Kay, Kenneth, Linda, Michael, Rex, and Wayne; Mrs. Mildred A. Flanagan and the family of Des Moines, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, October 13 at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. The service will be officiated by Reverend Art Hill and Reverend Neil Montz. The interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Knoxville or Hospice of Central Iowa in Knoxville.
Williams Funeral Home of Knoxville assisted the family with the arrangements.
