Virginia Noftsger Patterson was born on May 18, 1921 in Marion County, Iowa to Glenn and June (Powers) Noftsger. Virginia grew up in Columbia and attended school in Marion County.

On June 13, 1942 she married Adam Patterson. After her husband finished his service in the Army during World War II, the couple moved to Denver, Colorado where she worked for the Denver Post for 23 years. Eventually they settled in Whittier, California.

Virginia had many interests. She was a devoted housewife and enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, arts and crafts. For many years she volunteered at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital of Whittier. She and her husband, Adam, loved to travel together. Their trips included visiting family and, of course, going to any and all casinos.
