Funeral services. for Robert Avery, who died Sept.,10 at Collins Memorial Hospital.
were held Sept. 12 from the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Leonard E. Deaver
and Rev. Paul Hann officiating. Burial wads in Graceland Cemetery with Evans-McCleery
Funeral Service in charge.

Honorary casketbearers were Arl Levin, Robert Elliott, Carroll Johnson, L.D. Tucker,
Jerry Kline, Arthur Wagner, Paul Harp and Dale Wolf Casketbearers were Randall Rose,
Everett Welch, Donald DeJong, Donald Rodgers, Charles Day and Joseph Johnston. Mrs.
Lois Anderson was organist. Robert Culver, son of Arthur and Lola Culver Avery,
was born Nov. 28, 1907 in Knoxville.

He attended Knoxville public schools and graduated from high school In 1926, Upon
graduation he entered the hardware business with his father and uncles, Frank and
Harry Avery.

On June 19, 1930 he was united in marriage to Mildred Shoemaker at Pleasantville.

He was a 52-year member of the Iowa Retail Hardware Association; held a 23-year
perfect attendance record in the Knoxville Rotary Club; was a 52-year member of
First United Methodist Church, where he served as lead usher for many years; and
was a member ot Marion County Historical Society and Knoxville Chamber of Commerce.

His parents preceded him in death.

Survivors included his wife, Mildred; sister, Mrs. Murray (Alice) Applegate of Knoxville;
nephews, Arthur Applegate of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Robert Applegate of Rock
Island, Ill.; and a 27-year employee, Mrs. Donald (Jeannine) DeJong, of whom the
Averys felt as a daughter.
