Richard Conway Hindman was born on Jan. 27, 1917, in Knoxville to Thomas and Margaret Hindman. He graduated from high school in 1936.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941, where he served as an aviation machinist mate in WWII before being honorably discharged in 1945 and farmed most of his life in the Pleasantville area.
He married Sylvia Zagar in 1948. They had two children.
Hindman married Doris Gosnell in Springfield, Ill., in 1977 following his first wife's death in 1974.
Hindman died on April 15 at the Comfort House in Pella, age 88.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; his sisters, Frances and Inez and his brother, James.
He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca, of Pella; a son, Ronald, of Pittsburgh, Pa., his sisters, Gladys Hindman and Mary Jean Cox, both of Wickenburg, Ariz.; his brother, Chet, of Roseburg, Ore., and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral was held April 20 with Rev. Dennis Hoffman officiating.
Interment was at Graceland Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy, American Legion BatyTucker Post No. 168 and V.F.W. John Myers Post No. 3519.
