A Celebration of Life of Gene Sinnard, 80, of Knoxville, who died Monday, May 17, 2004, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital, was held Thursday, May 20, at Williams
Funeral Home.
Elders Bill McDonald and Dick Young officiated at the services. Music
was provided by Katie Davis, vocalist and Jim Kidder, organist. Interment was at
the Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Casketbearers were Melvin Graesser, Adam Sinnard,
John Sinnard, Levi Sinnard, Ryan Van Donsler and Matthew Wilhelm. Honorary bearers
were Phil Bailey, Bob Dralle, Cliff Line, Ken Meeker, Joe Tonda and Bob Waters.
Gene was born on Dec. 3, 1923, in Beech, to Harry and Zella (Collins) Sinnard. He
graduated from Knoxville High School in 1943.
On Sept. 30, 1948 he married Marilyn
Lina Miller in Knoxville. To this union four children were born. For 20 years Gene
owned and operated the Phillips 66 station. He then continued for another 13 1/2
years at the Skelly station.
As a charter member of the Knoxville Morning Kiwanis
in 1962, Gene had perfect attendance for 38 years until the year 2000. He remained
active in the projects and programs of Kiwanis for his 40 years of membership.
He
was a member of the Community of Christ Church and was ordained as a deacon. He
enjoyed watching TV soaps and spent many years driving VA patients. He was preceded
in death by his parents; a son; a daughter; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Merva
Brooks and two brothers, Kenneth and Paul.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Sinnard
of Knoxville; a son and his wife, Jeff and Lori Sinnard of Knoxville; a daughter
and her husband, Phyllis and Fulton Wilhelm of Independence; six grandchildren
and one great-grandchild. Arrangements were made by Williams Funeral Home.
