Donna Lou Mead, most recently a resident of Garland, Texas was granted her final peace on Saturday, September 1, 2001 at 12:15 p.m. bringing closure to a seven-year battle with cancer. After a final farewell and a few last gentle breaths, she passed peacefully onward surrounded by her family and friends.

Donna was born in Mitchellville, Iowa on July 23, 1939 and spent most of her adolescent years in Knoxville, Iowa. She later moved briefly to Los Angeles, California and then established her final home in the Dallas suburb of Garland, Texas. Donna was an active person who especially enjoyed dancing and physical fitness.

She gave her time freely to her church and special charities, and she always found great joy in children. Donna inspired many people, not only with the incredible grace she displayed in the face of a devastating illness, but also in the simple, well-grounded wisdom with which she conducted herself throughout life.

Her influence in the lives of those who knew her was undeniable. A son, her mother, a sister, three brothers, a handful of nieces and nephews, and her beloved pets (Gidget, Trixie, Sadie and Peaches) survive Donna. She will be missed deeply by them all.

Should you care to honor Donna in a special way and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in her name to either the Animal Rescue Foundation-ARF (903-5647056) or the New Beginnings women's shelter (972-487-8840).
