Funeral services for Andrew Robert Hunter, 20, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Knoxville,
who died on Sunday, September 2, 2001, at his parent's home in Tracy, were held
on Thursday, September 6, at First Assembly of God Church in Knoxville. Darlene
Mooberry officiated at the services. Music was provided by Jim Kidder, organist
and Katie Davis, vocalist.
Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery. Casket bearers were Joe Durham, Curtis Glover,
Jake Harsin, Cale Kendrick, Jason Cushman, and Troy Rider. Honorary casket bearers
were Ashley Hunter, Joe Glissman, Ryan Wright, Shawn Wright, and Josh Thompson.
Andy was born on April 26, 1981, in Pella, the son of Sandra (Pitt) and Randy Hunter.
He was raised in Knoxville and graduated with the class of 1999. During high school,
he was a student teacher and was on the wrestling team.
He worked at McDonald's for three years and then VerMeer for one year. He had also
attended Indian Hills Community College. He was currently living in Cedar Rapids
and working for MCI WorldCom. He was planning to enroll at Kirkwood College. He
was also a coach for the Pee Wee Wrestling program in Knoxville.
Andy loved his family and friends and will be remembered as a good-hearted and caring
person by all who knew him.
He is survived by his parents, Sandra and Randy of Tracy; sister, Ashley of Tracy;
maternal grandparents, Gene and Bev Pitt of Oskaloosa; paternal grandparents, Robert
Dean Hunter of Des Moines and Mary Ellen and Mac McCoy of Homosassa, Fla.; and many
other cherished family members and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Andy Hunter Memorial Wrestling Scholarship (in care
of Wells Fargo Bank).
