A private burial for Willis Gregory Stroud, 80, of Harvey, who died, April 30, at his
home, was held May 12, 1997, at Breckenridge Cemetery. A memorial gathering of family
and friends was held that afternoon at the home of Sandra and Fred Agan.

Willis was born August 1, 1916, in Harvey, the son of Worth Henderson Stroud and
Jessie Agnes Gregory Stroud. He attended country school through the eighth grade
and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1932, at the age of 15.

He was united in marriage to Kathryn Stanley on October 18, 1941. He joined the
Navy in September, 1935, at age 19, and served for 23 years. He was a World War
II veteran, serving in the Philippines, Brazil, Africa, Italy, Malaysia, Puerto
Rico, China and the U.S. In 1957, he returned to the family farm and worked at the
Knoxville VA Hospital until retirement.

He was a member of the Knoxville Presbyterian
Church, the Masons, and the Za-Ga-Zig Temple.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Merle and Richard; and a
sister, Marian.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn of Knoxville; two sons, Richard of Cocoa Beach,
Fla., and Stephen of Boston, Mass.; three daughters, Sharon Rowland of Baltimore,
Md., Kathleen Stroud of Corvallis, Ore., and Carole Stroud of Palo Alto, Calif.;
a sister, Dorothy Loynachan of Knoxville; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Clay Township Fire and Rescue.
