Funeral services for William Craig Stanton, 46, of Knoxville, who died December 29, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, were held January 2, 1997, at Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville. Burial was at Coalport Cemetery. Masonic services were held January 1, by Bellefountaine Lodge #163, A.F.&A.M.
The Rev. John States officiated at the services. Music was provided by Jim Kidder, organist. Pallbearers were Don Hull, Dick Reed, Craig Jones, Jim Darnell, Larry DeVos, Doug Marshall, Doug Swanson, and Bill Schlotterback.
William was born April 5, 1950, in Oskaloosa, the son of Rex and Blanche Freerksen Stanton. He was raised in the Knoxville area, where he attended school.
He was united in marriage to Nancy Agan on June 15, 1968.
He was a group leader on the dryer assembly line at Maytag Company in Newton, and was a union representative for several years. He was a member of Bellefountaine Masonic Lodge #163, A.F. & A.M., and the United Auto Workers Local 997.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Ron.
He is survived by his wife Nancy; a son, Rod; a daughter, Jennifer Clarke; his mother; three brothers, Mark, Kim and Darrel; a sister, Cheryl Robinson; and three grandchildren, all of Knoxville.
Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children – Twin Cities Unit, and the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum.
