Welton White5/13/1991
Welton Eugene White, 72, formerly of Knoxville, passed away May 13, 1991.

Welton grew up in the home of a medical doctor. He and his brother were twins. Welton
wanted to be a doctor until he assisted his father in a minor operation. It was
then he decided that he better do something else for a living.

He grew up in Knoxville and started his college career at Grinnell College. He later
transferred to the University of Chicago where he graduated with a Masters degree
in Sociology.

In July of 1945 Welton married Betty. The Lord blessed them with four sons, Mike,
Mark, Matt and Kevin. The Whites also enjoy the blessing of nine grandchildren.

Welton served his country during World War II as an Army Air Force training instructor.
He provided a living for his family through the business world. He was in the surplus
business and the canvas manufacturing business for over 25 years. In the year 1969
something happened to both him and Betty that would change the course of their lives.

On Oct. 9, 1969, in Anaheim, Calif. during a Billy Graham Crusade, both Welton and
Betty accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal savior. Then through a series
of circumstances Welton was introduced to The Evangelical Alliance Mission.

In 1973
they both went to Wheaton, Ill., to attend the candidate school for the TEAM mission.
They were the oldest students in the school. They have both served with the mission
since 1973. From 1974 to 1976 Welton and Betty went to Zimbabwe to pastor a church
for the Lord.

You could not be around Welton for long before he would start telling you stories
about his experiences in Zimbabwe.

With no formal Bible training, Welton served as a representative of the Lord through
the ministry of TEAM. He served the Lord with distinction from 1974 until May 13,
1991. Welton White demonstrated that the greatest ability a man can have for God
is "availability."
