Services for Marjorie L. (Burdick) Kerr, 65, of Newton, who passed away as a result of cancer
on May 12, 1991 at her home, were held May 14 at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. Interment
was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Rev. Frederick Kramer officiated at the
services.
Marjorie L. Kerr was born to Bradford Wilson and Jane Andersen Burdick on July
26, 1925 at Sheridan, Wyo. She graduated from Knoxville High School.
On April 7,
1942 she married John Wesley Kerr (1922 – 1995) in Knoxville. The couple moved to Newton in 1948.
She was co-owner and operator of the Newton House Doctor and was later the manager
of Toyland, Western Auto, and Montgomery Ward. Marjorie was a member of the First
United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, John
B. Kerr; a brother, Bradford, and a sister Ruth Louwsma. She is survived by her husband
John W. Kerr of Newton; five daughters, Sandra Chilcote of Newton, Janice Bryant
of Indianola, Jacqueline Foreman of Newton, Ruth Bachman of Cedar Rapids, and Susan
Theis of Woodland Park, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and one sister Eunice Van Vark of Lamoni.
Memorials may be
made to the American Cancer Society and Hospice of Jasper County.
