The Rev. Von Burr Elbert, 83, of Living Center West, died there Friday, Oct. 13, 1995, after a brief illness.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion, and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church. The Rev. Jerry Springston will officiate. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.

Survivors include {private}; and two brothers, Frank of St. David, Ariz., and Dr. Fay Alfred of Fairmont, Minn. Also surviving are five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gertrude; and two sisters, Verda L. Silcox b.1910 d.1973 and Vera Mae Register b.1914 d.1979.

Von was born Jan. 21, 1912, in Rolfe, Iowa, to Chester Albert and Elsie May (Burr) Elbert. The family moved to Minnesota and Von graduated from high school near Jackson, Minn. He married Gertrude Esther Zill (b.1911 d.1992) on June 18, 1933, in Britt.

Von attended Northwestern Bible and Missionary School in Minneapolis. He served churches in River Falls, Wis., and Corwith, Winterset, Newell, Eldon, Knoxville, Vinton, Des Moines and Maquoketa, Iowa, before retiring from full-time ministry in 1976. He continued in interim and supply preaching.

Von served in a number of capacities for the Area Baptist Association as moderator, clerk and treasurer, was a member of the ordination committee, treasurer of Iowa Baptist Credit Union, and pastor counselor for Iowa Baptist Men and numerous Baptist youth camps.

Von’s untiring service to the Lord is a testimony of his love for the Savior, Jesus Christ….
