Funeral services for Fred Nela Beckman 55, of Germantown, Tenn., formerly of Knoxville, who died October 5, in Memphis, Tenn., were held October 9, 1995, at EvansMcCleery Funeral Home in Knoxville.

Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. The Rev. Leon Hodges officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Jerry Gronau, Abe Gronau, Jim Johnson, Corwin Fee, Gordon Rowe, and Randy Esbeck.

Fred was born December 4, 1939, in Des Moines, the son of Richard William and Alice Lorraine Sandstrom Beckman.

He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1957, and later from Iowa State University in Ames. He became a technical writer for General Electric’s Jet Engine Division
in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1966. He joined Kroger Co. in 1969 as an industrial engineer.

He lived in Atlanta, Georgia from 1972 to 1977, working for Kroger and he began small a construction company there. He worked for Food Fair in ‘Miami, Fla., in 1977,
and then moved to Des Moines in 1983 as engineering manager for Super Valu. He has resided in Germantown, Tenn., for the past six years and worked as planning and
design director for the Fleming Corporation in Memphis.

He was united in marriage to Letha Johnson on July 22, 1961, in Ames. He was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his mother; his wife, of Germantown, Tenn.; two daughters, Kelly Esbeck of Cumming, Ga., and Karin Beckman of Germantown; two sons, Steven of Atwater,
Calif., and Michael of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Alice Shives of Monroe; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Memphis Cancer Center Foundation and St.
Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements were made by Evans-McCleery Funeral Home in Knoxville.
