Verna Lee Mecham, 78 years old, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2011, at Mercy Hospice House Johnston, after a long battle with liver disease.
A memorial service will be held at the Columbia Community Center in Columbia on July 11, 2011, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Gosport Cemetery.

Verna was born in Knoxville on April 17, 1933, to Beulah and Harry (Hap) Presley.
She was married to Gale Mecham on Feb. 10, 1951, and they lived in Knoxville, where she was a nursing assistant at the Knoxville VA for over 20 years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crafting, and going to auctions, as well as fishing, camping, and traveling with her family.

She also bowled in the Knoxville Bowling League for many years. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gale; her two sisters, Norma and Leona; her daughter, Brenda; and her great-grandson Lane.

She is survived by her brother Jim Presley of Knoxville, three daughters, Anita Allison (Roy) of Knoxville, Cindy Etter (Jim) of Knoxville, Patty Orr (Mark) of West Des Moines, and one son Michael Mecham of Texas; 8 grandchildren: Heather Fell of Knoxville, Chris (Theresa) Rowland of Knoxville, Amber (Jake) Bonnie of Jefferson City, Mo., Amanda (Casey) Gigler of Ames, Kevin (Barbara) Orr of Omaha, Neb., Megan (Jack) Turner of Melcher, Jenna Mecham of Washington State and Bryce Orr of Des Moines; as well as 17 great-grandchildren.

Any memorial contributions made will be given to Mercy Hospice Johnston in Johnston.

There will be a luncheon following the graveside service at the Columbia Community Center.
