Vera Hicks Storey, 92, of Tulsa and former Skiatook resident, died Friday, March 21, 2008 at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa.
She was born to H.C. (Pete) and Minnie Shinn Hicks in Knoxville, Iowa on Jan. 23, 1916. She was educated in Knoxville and graduated with the class of 1933.
Trained as an X-ray technician, she worked for hospitals in the Kingsport, Tenn., area during WWII.
She married Paul Lincoln Storey on June 14, 1945. The union was blessed with two sons, Steven Ricky and Mark Kent.
A Skiatook resident since 1952, she worked for the Tulsa County Health Department and later was the administrator for the Skiatook Nursing Home.
After her retirement from the nursing home, she worked with her faith communities, First United Methodist Church and Skiatook Christian Church, and was one of the original volunteers for the Skiatook Emergency Assistance Center.
She is survived by her son Mark of Tulsa, grand niece Angelina Paglia of Chandler, Ariz., and sister Bertine Organ of St. Paul, Minn.
She is also survived by her Skiatook family who she loved dearly. She wished to express her love to Donna Sue Jones, Barbara Haymore, the Akin Family and her "special boys" Frank Scamardo and Tom Bush.
