Thomas LeeRoy “Tom” Clarke, Jr., age 64, of Knoxville died Sunday at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Tom was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on February 8, 1950. The eldest son of Thomas LeRoy and Donna Marie (Coady) Clarke. He graduated from Knoxville High School, class of 1968.
After high school Tom attended Area 11 Community College for drafting.
Tom worked at Maytag for 10 years; 3m of Knoxville for 12 years; he formerly owned the Coast to Coast Hardware Store and for almost 12 years was working in the maintenance department at Prairie Meadows in Altoona.
Tom loved his family and extended family, especially his wife Joyce. He had a passion for golf and the outdoors, which included hunting, mushroom hunting and fishing. Tom liked poker games ice cream and beer. He was selfless and always helpful.
Tom is survived by the love of his life Joyce (Null) Clarke; his sons, Dave Clarke, Dee (Jennifer Clarke and Dan (Jennifer) Clarke; two stepsons, Jimmy (Lisa) Null and Steven (Vanessa) Null; and 14 grandchildren.
Tom is also survived by his two sisters, Cindy Marshall and Carol Reed and his two brothers, Randy Clarke and Linda O’Brien and Brian (Erin) Clarke. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Donna Clarke; his brother Bruce Clarke and his two brother-in-laws, Russ Marshall and Curtis “Simon” Null.
Tom’s wishes were to be cremated and a visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville. Tom’s family will be present Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Friday, September 19th, also at the Winfield Funeral Home. Following services a luncheon will be held at the Community of Christ Church.
