Stephen Howard Hamler was born April 5, 1951, in Marshalltown, Iowa the son of Howard and LaVonne (Ziemke) Hamler.

He was raised in Knoxville and graduated from Knoxville High School with the Class of 1969. On July 14, 1973, Steve was united in marriage to Cherol Lanphier in Knoxville. From a young age, Steve worked with his father at Hamler Heating and Cooling. He eventually took over the business and ran it until a stroke forced Steve to retire in 2008.

He always enjoyed sprint car racing. He loved family vacations, especially when they all went to Yellowstone. Steve was dedicated to his family, his country, and his community. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Steve passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at the Comfort House, in Pella, at the age of 63 years.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry Eugene, and Douglas Jon, and his father, Howard.

Those left to cherish Steve’s memory include his wife, Cherol; children: Valerie Graves of Knoxville, Eric Hamler (Jenny) of Pella, and Jamie Hamler (Josh) of Knoxville; his mother, LaVonne Hamler of Knoxville; six grandchildren: Haley, Carlee, Kyle, Hope, Elayna and Jayde; three great-grandchildren: Liam, Noah, and Olivia; his siblings: Cindy (Roger) Todd and Debbie (Chet) Rankin all of Knoxville and many other family members and friends.

Military Honors accorded by the American Legion Baty-Tucker Post 168, V.F.W. John Myers Post #3519, and the United States Army.

Memorials may be made to the Bellefontaine Cemetery Association.

Visitation will begin after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
