Shirley Joyce (Thomas) Battistello – Vance was born on September 26, 1937, to Walter and Adeline (Christian) Thomas in Knoxville, Iowa.

She attended the Knoxville Community Schools. In 1955 she was united in marriage with John Robert Battistello at Pella, Iowa. To this union four children were born: John, Teresa, Timothy, and Cynthia. She attended to the needs of her family at home until she went to work at the Pella Overall Factory and later Rolscreen Company.

On April 18, 1968, she was united in marriage with Vernon Vance at Unionville, Missouri.
They spent their years of marriage living in Tracy, Iowa. Vernon passed in February
15, 2000 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

On July 7, 2011, Shirley passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 73 years.

She is survived by her children and their families: John Battistello of Knoxville, Iowa,
Teresa and her husband Mark Peiffer of Johnston, Iowa, Tim and his wife Chris Battistello
of Pella, Iowa, and Cynthia and her husband Jim Kelly of Newton, Iowa along with
many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She is also survived by her stepchildren, Steven Vance, Kevin (Carol) Crow, Vickie Brudwickie, Vanessa Cervantes, and Loralee Knipe.

Shirley is survived by two sisters, Mary, and her husband Ed Schakel of Harvey, Iowa, and Sarah Thomas and her husband Jerry Mitchum of Carlisle, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon, and her parents.
Shirley enjoyed cross-stitching, TV, baking, and loved animals. She will be dearly missed
by her family and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 11, 2011, at 10:00 a.m.
Williams Funeral Home, Knoxville, Iowa

Interment will be made in the Bellefontaine Cemetery at TracyShirley Thomas

Visitation will begin Sunday afternoon at the Williams Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials may be made to the Shirley Vance Memorial Fund.
