Shirley Jo (Black) Grimes was born August 10, 1948, in Oskaloosa, Iowa the daughter of Richard and Mary (Jones) Black.
She was raised in Knoxville and graduated with the Knoxville High School Class of 1966. As a young woman, Shirley worked on her father’s farm and at the Bingley-Dykstra and Phil Clark Sale barns.
On May 28, 1982, Shirley was united in marriage to Larry Grimes. In her spare time, Shirley loved to play cards, especially hand-and-foot. She was also a compassionate person and had a special place in her heart for her pets.
Shirley passed away Friday, April 7, 2017, at the Knoxville Hospital & Clinic at the age of 68 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Larry; brother, Art (Carol) Black all of Knoxville; niece, Renae (Jason) Scalabrin, and their children: Quinn and Ty of Nehalem, Oregon; nephew, Brent (Stacy) Black and their children: Douglas, Dawson, and Shaylyn of Knoxville and many other family members and friends.
A Memorial Service for Shirley Grimes, age 68 of Knoxville, will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bybee & Davis Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Knoxville rescue Unit or to the Marion County 4-H.
