Sandra (Laird) Regnier, 65, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2007 from cancer at Mercy Medical
Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Friday, December 28,
2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Moines with burial to follow at Graceland
Cemetery in Knoxville, Iowa.
Sandy was born in rural Tracy, Iowa. She received her
high school education at Knoxville High School, graduating in 1960. In 1960 she
married John Ovid Regnier. Although this union failed in 1968, from this union,
her two precious children were born. In 1960, their son Paul Ovid was born. In 1963,
their daughter Paula Desiree Faye Regnier, Kohler (Summers) was born.
In 1968, Sandra
began attending Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, where she completed her undergraduate
and graduate degrees in Special Education in 1973. In 1973 she began her very fulfilling
30 year teaching career. Over the 30 years, she taught at Ames High School, Johnston
High School and retired from Valley High School in 2003.
Sandra enjoyed tutoring
many students that were confined at home, both preceding and following her retirement.
She also enjoyed the company of her grandchildren, friends and family members. Sandy
made use of quiet time at home in Des Moines where she could enjoy reading in her
free time.
Sandy is survived by her mother Edna Downard of Des Moines; children
Paul O. Regnier and his fiancé Gloria of Des Moines and Paula Desiree Faye Regnier,
Kohler (Summers) and her husband Kent of Angleton, Texas; grandchildren, Dustin
Charles Kohler and Natasha Regnier both of Des Moines; her siblings, Dennis Ray
(Mary Ann) Laird of West Des Moines, Cindy Mundy of Chariton, Teena (Murray) Lenger
of Lincoln, Nebraska and Sonya (Danny) Mundy of Knoxville; and several nieces and
nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8pm Thursday at Iles Funeral
Homes-Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer
Society or the Diabetes Association ILES Westover Chapel 6337 Hickman Road published
