Ruth Mildred Chivers, 96, of Sandwich, formerly of Orion, IL passed away at Dogwood Health Care Facility in Sandwich on June 20, 2001. Ruth was born December 1, 1904 in Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Minverva Meyers Linscott.
She married Arthur J. Chivers on December 25, 1926 in Knoxville, Iowa.
Ruth was educated in Knoxville, Iowa and attended Augustana College in Rock Island and the former Mary Crest College in Davenport. A school teacher, Mrs. Chivers, retired after 23 years in the teaching field.
Survivors include a son, Glenn A. (Ruth) Chivers of Sandwich; a grandson, David (Cheryl) Chivers of Somonauk; a granddaughter, Diane (Charles) Funk of Ottawa; five great grandchildren, Heather and Andrew Chivers, Jordan, Lauren and Dillon Funk and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on September 25, 1988; three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2001 at Kirk Huggins & Esterdahl in Orion, IL with Rev. Robert Dell officiating. Burial will be in Western Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Orion.
