Ruby P. (Penland) VerSteeg, 77, of 4423 Ovid Ave., a retired elementary school teacher, died of cancer Thursday, July 31, 1986, at Mercy Hospital Medical center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Westover Funeral Home. The burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
Mrs. Ver Steeg was born on Dec 15, 1908, in Knoxville and lived in Des Moines for 30 years. She had taught school in rural Marion County for 24 years and in the Des Moines public school system for 18 years.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grace Women’s Society Circle No. 2, American Business Women’s Association Des Moines Area Retired Teachers, National Education Association, and Mercy Hospital Guild.
Survivors include her husband, Cornie E.; three sisters, Ruth Foust. Dorothy Ellis and Mary Stenlund, all of Des Moines, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
