A mass of Christian Burial for Roma Gertrude Anderson, 84, Knoxville, who died from
complications of cancer on Dec. 21, 1992, at the Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville,
were Dec. 23 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Knoxville. A vigil service was
held on Dec. 22.
Burial was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. The Rev. Philip
Cardenzana officiated at the service. Music was provided by Mary Stults and the
St. Anthony's Church Choir. Pallbearers were Richard Hindman, Norman Chrisman, Don
Swearngain, Bill Lundy, Joe Conway and Bob DeWitt.
Roma was born on Oct. 7, 1908, the daughter of John and Martha Conway DeWitt. Roma
graduated from Knoxville High School in the class of 1926. She was first employed
by the C.L. Pine Loan Company and later in life was a secretary for the county nurse
from 1961 to 1973.
She was married to Roland Anderson on Jan. 4, 1936 in Chariton and the couple made
their home in Knoxville. Roma was a member of the St. Anthony's Church and the Altar
and Rosary Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Oct. 7, 1961 and one brother,
Robert DeWitt.
Survivors include one daughter, Martha Jane Roper of Sierra Norco, Calif.; one
sister, Marian Flanders; and one grandson, Rollie Roper.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
The Bybee and Davis Funeral Home of Knoxville was in charge of the arrangements.
