Raymond Gale Wing Birth: September 09, 1921 Death date: February 08, 2010, Raymond Gale Wing, age 88, of Prairie City died Monday, February 8, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held on Friday,
February 12, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Prairie City.
Burial will follow at McKeever Cemetery north of Colfax.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City from 2:00
– 8:00 p.m. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be
given to the Raymond Gale Memorial Fund and online condolences may be left for the
family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The son of Walter Leroy and Anna Rebecca (Ferguson)
Wing, Gale was born on September 23, 1921, in LaPlata, Missouri. He graduated from
Knoxville High School in 1940.
On June 22, 1944, he was united in marriage to Leona
Van Zee in Pella, Iowa. Gale served in the United States Army. Gale farmed in the
Runnells area for many years and moved to Pella in 1985. Gale and Leona managed
Fair Haven West for several years while in Pella. They moved to Prairie City in
2002.
Gale was a member of the Prairie Christian Reformed Church and while in Pella
was a member of Covenant Reformed Church. He was a former member of the Runnells
Lions Club sat on the Board of Directors of both the Mitchellville COOP and the
SE Polk Rural Water. Gale had a talent for woodworking making many things that his
family still enjoy.
Those left to honor his memory, his wife of 65 years Leona in
Prairie City; four children, Dennis (Marcia) Wing of Runnells, Sheila Navis of Des
Moines, Joan (Max) Allsup of Mitchellville and Greg (Deb) Wing of Runnells; eight
grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Galloway, Mandy (Steve) Zook, Anna (Matt) Pilcher,
Jodi (Sam) Hoerr, Nathan Allsup, Darin (Kim) Wing, Rick (Ashley) Wing, and Victoria
Wing; six great-grandchildren, Nathan and William Zook, Avery and Abigail Galloway,
Jacob Pilcher and Kathryn Hoerr; a sister Betty (Stanton) Metcalf of Knoxville and
Jack (Marge) Wing of Winter Park, Florida.
Preceding Gale in death were his parents and two brothers, Loren and Walt.
