Randol Lee Klootwyk was born July 16, 1956, to Ralph G. and W. Pauline Klootwyk (Nichols) in Knoxville, IA.
Randy graduated from Knoxville High School in 1975 and worked in manufacturing and construction during his career.
He worked at Roll Screen for 25 years and Whirlpool Corporation for over a decade. Randy lived most of his life in the Knoxville and Iowa City area where he was close to his family and friends.
He was free-spirited, had an exceptional artistic gift and was an avid fan of sprint car racing. Over his lifetime, Randy produced drawings, custom static models of ships, planes, and cars.
He also made custom-built furniture and furnishings that have been passed down to his children. Additionally, he assembled and finished a beautiful grandfather clock for his mother which became the spotlight of her living room.
Randy also enjoyed home remodeling projects and completely redesigned and renovated his own home, becoming one of his greatest accomplishments. Randy was a loving father, brother, and friend and he will be dearly missed.
Randy is survived by two children, Andrew R. Klootwyk (Jessica) of San Diego, California and Erin E. Klootwyk of Surprise, Arizona.
Three grandsons, Adam Mekhail (Selma), Andrew Mekhail, and Jackson Klootwyk, one granddaughter, Elise Klootwyk, one great grandson, Damian Mekhail-Canez, and five siblings, Steve Klootwyk (Carla), Joe Klootwyk, Kent Klootwyk (Ronia), Sue Klootwyk, and Brian Klootwyk (Kelly).
He was preceded in death by his parents and his long-time girlfriend, Julie Atkins (Coralville).
The family has designated Marion County Humane Society for memorials.
