Paul David “Red” Hesseltine, 62, of 1008 Luster Lane died of cancer Monday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Merle Hay Funeral Chapel, and burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Hesseltine was born in Knoxville and lived in Des Moines most of his life. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and later worked for Royal Monarch. A navy veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of Beaverdale Veterans of Foreign Wars post and Izaak Walton League and a charter member of Elks Lodge.

Among survivors are his wife, Dinie; four daughters, Zoe Behrens and Debra Witmer, both of Des Moines, Teri Baltisberger of Carson City, Nev., and Paula Jo Surber of Moravia; a brother, Jack of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will visit with friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
