Eleanor "Judy Mom"
Smith, 92, of Adrian, died Tuesday, July 9, 1996, at Bixby Medical Center.
She was born on April 2, 1904, in Lucas County, Iowa, to F.O. Davis and Anne Beintema. Eleanor was a 1921 graduate of Knoxville, Iowa, High School. In 1950 she married Gordan E. Smith in Ann Arbor.
Mrs. Smith was the owner of Alexander School of Beauty in Ann Arbor and also owned a beauty shop on Ann Street. She was then employed by the U of M School of Natural Resources for 10 years, retiring in 1962.
Mrs. Smith attended St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a member of the American Gold Star Mothers, life member of the DAV, life member of the VFW Military Order of the Purple Heart, member of the World War II Mothers in Adrian, and a former Cub Scout Den Mother for Pack 11 in Ann Arbor.
Mrs. Smith was known for her quick smile and easy laugh. She had a joke for everyone.
She is survived by one son, Robert L. Marlow of Adrian; a sister, Virginia Sharp of Knoxville, Iowa; a grandson, Joseph Barta of California; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her Parents, first husband, Louis J. Marlow in 1947, and by her second husband, Gordan Smith in 1969; a son, Joseph A. Marlow, during World War II on the USS Franklin
Aircraft Carrier while stationed in the Pacific; and three sisters, Bertha Koopman, Maxine Wynn and Maye Speed and a brother, Elmer Davis.
A memorial service will be 12 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 1996, at Everiss-Wagley Funeral Home with Sister Pat Riley officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa.
