Muriel Jane (VanderLinden) Sharp was born on Feb. 12, 1922, in Bussey to Ira and Belle (Simms) VanderLinden.

She was a lifelong resident of Marion County. Muriel married Harry Wayne Sharp on
May 31, 1939, in Unionville, Mo. To this union, five sons were born.

In 1963 she
began working for the Twin Cedars Schools as a cook. Later she was employed by the
Marion County Courthouse, working in the Auditor, Assessor, and Clerk of Court offices.

Muriel retired in January 1981 and for the last 18 years, she and her husband have
wintered in Arizona and Texas. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, crafts, and painting.
She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.

Muriel passed away on June 13, 2006, at the Westridge Nursing and Rehab Center at
the age of 84.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Johnnie.

Muriel is survived by her husband, Harry; children, Jerry Sharp of Knoxville, Don
(Kathy) Sharp of Des Moines, Rick (Donna) Sharp of Eldridge, and Ted (Judy) Sharp
of Knoxville; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild;
sisters, Viola Knapp, Edna (Charles) Nelson, and Lucille (Joe) Urias, and brothers,
Ray VanderLinden and Dale (Judy) VanderLinden.Muriel VanderLinden

A memorial service was held on June 16 with Pastor Terry Banker officiating.

The interment was in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.

Memorials may be made to the Bessie Spaur Butterfly Garden or to the Hospice of Central
Iowa.
