Betty Louetta (Brobst) Hodgson was born on October 20, 1923, in Knoxville, Iowa. She was one of three children born to Ella McMillan and Bart Brobst. Betty graduated from Knoxville High School in 1941. Her senior year, Betty served as the class president and was voted “Most Ideal Girl” for the Class of 1941.
October 1942 Betty was united in marriage to Dean Palmer Hodgson. To this union, two children were born. Dean and Betty made their home on a farm off G 40 until his death in 1975.
Betty then moved to Knoxville. Betty liked to kid with friends and family. She relished verbally sparing with certain special people. Betty was a member of the Knoxville First United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women for many years. Betty was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Epworth League, and Girl Reserves.
Betty enjoyed cross-stitching and counted cross stitch. She helped her granddaughters with their 4-H projects. Most of her family has pictures and pillows as reminders of Betty. Betty’s family was the center of her life. She helped raise her two granddaughters.
She was a loving and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother Betty Louetta Hodgson passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 24 days at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital.
Family members that preceded Betty in death were her parents; her husband; one brother, Robert Brobst, and an infant sister. Those left to mourn her passing are one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Richard Adkins of Knoxville; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Jeannie Hodgson of Madison, Tennessee; two granddaughters and their husbands, Amanda and Josh Greubel of Oelwein and Melodie and Chris Smith of Des Moines and one great-grandchild, Benen Greubel of Oelwein.
