On August 27, 2019, Monte Reid Carter passed away at his home in Austin, Texas at the age of 62. Monte was born on April 4, 1957 to Lloyd and Alberta Carter (Onstank).
He attended Knoxville Schools and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1975. He was a voracious reader ever since his childhood, when he began reading encyclopedias at an early age. Monte especially loved history books and seemed to have a photographic memory of anything he read.
He also loved listening to NPR and frequently told friends and family about the interesting stories he heard on the radio. He could talk to anyone from any walk of life and made people feel comfortable immediately. He had a wealth of esoteric knowledge about different cultures, music, languages and many other subjects that he learned on his own through books.
Monte was truly a compassionate human being. Despite not having much money, he would see homeless people on the streets and duck into a store and buy them a blanket. He also volunteered at the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless and was a true advocate for the clients he served. He was a gifted musician, artist, photographer and furniture maker. He was also a natural storyteller.
Monte was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd and mother, Alberta.
Those left to cherish his memory are the love of his life; Kristin Morris, brother; Lee Carter, sister; Missy Gray (Greg) and several adored nieces, nephews and cousins.
