William “Cowboy” Grimes (2007) William Michael “Cowboy” Grimes went home to Jesus,
Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at Mahaska Health Partnership Hospital in Oskaloosa, at
the age of 50.

During the last year, Mike’s youngest grandson, Dominic Pittarelli
helped him deal with cancer as well as gave him lots of love and pleasure.

William Michael Grimes was born on Feb. 19, 1957, in Oskaloosa. He was one of four children born to Annette Marie Cox and William V. “Bill” Grimes. Mike was raised in Knoxville and graduated with the class of 1975 from Knoxville High School.

Mike was united in marriage to Mickey Briggs. To this union, one son was born. Mike was later married to Penny Rogers. Mike loved working on the Grimes farm. He was also an electrician and construction operator. “Cowboy’s” favorite things besides family and friends were his boat, fishing, hunting, and best of all, bull riding. Mike started bull riding in high school and then moved to the Iowa Professional Rodeo and Cowboy Assoc.

Preceding Mike in death was one sister.

Those left to mourn his passing are one son and his wife, Cody and Lacy Grimes of Beaverdale; his mother, Annette Grimes of Knoxville; his father and step-mother, William V. “Bill” and Kathy Grimes of Newton; two sisters, Katherine (Doug) Bogaards of Pella and Suzanne (Ty) Anderson of Des Moines; grandmother, Lola Vohl of Knoxville; six stepchildren, Gary (Shona)
Briggs of Chariton, Tammy (Kevin) McRoberts of Chariton, Missy Amos of Chariton, Jessica (Brian) Pittarelli of Newport News, Va., Summer Rogers of Washington, N.C. and Blake Rogers of Jacksonville, N.C.; one step-sister, Marla (Mike) McGinn of Galesburg, Ill.; two step-brothers, Kurt (Julie) Prough of Chariton and Linn (Lorrie) Prough of Indianola and eight grandchildren.

A private family committal will be
held at Zion Cemetery in rural Lucas County, Iowa with Pastor Gary Marzolf officiating.
Memorials in memory of Mr. Grimes may be made to Mahaska Hospice. Condolence messages
