Michael Douglas Brause, 51, of Sedalia, MO, died at his home on Saturday, May 16, 2009, with his wife Sharon at his side. A survivor of lung cancer, Mike passed away following a short, tough fight with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Mike was born in Knoxville, IA, on May 27, 1957, the son of Ralph and Tharon Betterton Brause.

Mike married Sharon Stout, the daughter of Mary Ann and the late Lloyd Edward Stout of West Burlington, IA, on August 6, 1982, in Knoxville, IA. With Mike’s Baptism and Confirmation in the Catholic faith in 1996, Mike and Sharon renewed their marriage vows in a Catholic ceremony at Sacred Heart Church in Sedalia, MO, with the Reverend Father Michael Volkmer officiating.

Mike was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church in Sedalia. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, NASCAR, the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, NCAA basketball, and fantasy football. He also enjoyed traveling with Sharon to the Minnesota Boundary Waters,
Hawaii, Canada, and Mexico.

Mike especially loved family gatherings in Iowa for weekends of golf, fishing, pool, and card playing.

Before his bout with ALS, Mike had been an electrician for Goosen Electric in Sedalia
and prior to that for Boling Heating, Cooling, and Electric in Warrensburg.

In addition to his wife Sharon, Mike is survived by his brothers Paul Brause, of
Story City, IA, and Paul’s adult sons Paul James, Scott, Rod, and Joe; Howard Brause,
of Ellston, IA, and his wife Cathy; a sister, Ada Bacus, of Knoxville, IA, and her husband Bill and their adult children Robin and Brian and Brian’s son, Billy.

Mike was preceded in death by his father and mother.

The Rite of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at 10 a.m.
at Sacred Heart Church in Sedalia, with the Reverend Father Bill Miller officiating.
Pallbearers will be Paul James Brause, Scott Brause, Rod Brause, Joe Brause, Brian
Bacus, and Travis Gahn.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19 at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Sedalia, with visitation following until 8:30 p.m.

Mike’s burial will be on Thursday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Burlington, IA.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, in care of the McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Sedalia.
