Michael Wayne VanderHeiden was born on August 19, 1961, in Knoxville, Iowa. He was
one of six children born to Edna Fay Stark and Arie LeRoy VanderHeiden.
Mike grew
up in the Harvey area and graduated from Knoxville High School in 1980. Mike enjoyed
many hobbies and friends but especially loved doing things outside and in the sun
including hunting and boating. Mike worked for 28 ½ years at the VA Medical Center.
Michael Wayne VanderHeiden passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2008, at the Mercy Medical
Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 46 years, 9 months, and 10 days. Preceding
him in death were his parents.
Those left to mourn his passing are three sisters,
Rosetta VanderHeiden of Harvey, Sondra Showers, and her husband, Rod of Knoxville
and Charlene Barnes and her husband, Don of Knoxville; two brothers, Gary and Dennis
VanderHeiden of Harvey as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were
held at Williams Funeral Home on June 3, 2008, with Chaplain Kevin Glesener officiating. Musical selections were, “Tears in Heaven”, CD By Eric Clapton, and the CD “Kite”.
Casket bearers were: Doug Bacon, John Dingeman, Todd Dursky, Rod Showers, Gary Vander
Heiden, Jr., and Troy White. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
