Services for Mary Pauline Henning, 83, who died August 10, 1989 at Griffin Nursing
Center, were held August 14 at First United Methodist Church. Bybee and Davis Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangments.
Interment was in Lincoln Cemetery. Rev. K. Wayne
Hoehns officiated at the services. Music was provided by Geoff Shultz, organist,
and Yield King, soloist. Pallbearers were John and Ted L. Ward, Ted R. Roberts,
and Roger, Kevin and Steven Henning. Honorary bearers were Pete Hale, Brent Hanna,
Glenn and Gordon Brown, The Tonda Jr., Carl Schwanebeck, and Vernon Ward.
Mrs. Henning
was born on July 22, 1906 in Marion County, the daughter of Thurman and Cora Pauline
Shivvers Ward.
She was a 1923 graduate of Knoxville High School and attended Normal
School in Spearfish, S.D. She taught at Highland and Sunnyside Schools in Marion
County and was later employed by the State of Iowa Tax Department. She retired in
1971 from the Marion County Department of Social Services.
On June 14, 1931 at the
home of her parents, she married William Henning. She was a member of Knoxville
First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband
in 1958; and one sister, Lena Hale.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald of Knoxville
and Wayne of Greensboro, N.C.; one daughter, Ann Evans of Kirkland, Wa.; 12 grandchildren;
six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Roberts and Frances Ridnouer, both of
Knoxville; and three brothers, Marce and Ted, both of Knoxville and Ira of Brooksville,
Fl.
A memorial has been designated to First United Methodist Church.
