Martin Lavern Laird was born on April 10, 1947, in Knoxville, Iowa.
Martin was born to Mart Laird and Betty Simmons. Martin attended high school through the ninth grade and later attained his G.E.D.
On December 30, 1967, he was united in marriage with Donna Lea DeRaad at Knoxville.
Martin worked as a coal miner, drove trucks, and later owned and operated his own metal scrap business for the last twenty years.
He enjoyed fishing, especially running lines and diddy poles on the river.
Martin’s health began to decline and he was airlifted to the Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa where he passed
away on September 24, 2023, at the age of 76.
He is survived by his loving wife Donna Laird of Knoxville, three children, Shawn Laird of Knoxville, Chisolm and his wife, Stephanie Laird of Bevington, IA, Daniel and his wife, Shandra Laird of Palm Coast, FL, and Kim Laird of Knoxville; daughter-in-law, (Jeremiah) Brandy Garcia of Des Moines, along with 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; and stepdaughters, Teresa and Annie.
Of his original family he is survived by brothers, Steve, Richard, and Farris Laird.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Jeremiah who passed away in 2018, and two brothers, Lawrence and Jim Laird.
He will be missed by his family and his friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
