Robert Harvey Evans, a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished grandfather, passed away on September 22, 2023, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He was 79 years old.
A visitation service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Knoxville from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Following visitation, Bill McDonald will offer words of comfort.
Born on July 20, 1944, Robert grew up in Knoxville and attended Knoxville Schools. After completing his education, he had various jobs, including Precision Pulley, Ben Shinn Trucking, and then Vermeer Mfg., where he retired. Robert dedicated himself to his work.
Robert was united in marriage to Susan Schlotterback on July 1, 1989, in Pershing, Iowa. They were blessed with 34 years of marriage before his passing. Susan said, “he was the love of my life”.
Those who knew Robert will fondly remember his warm personality and great sense of humor. He had an unwavering love for his family and always went above and beyond to help anyone in need. Robert’s kind-hearted nature touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact.
In his leisure time, Robert found joy in deer hunting and was an avid fan of NASCAR, following the sport with enthusiasm.
Robert Evans fought a hard battle with grace and resilience until the very end. While our hearts ache with grief at his loss, we find solace in knowing that he is no longer suffering and is finally at peace.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Susan Evans of Knoxville; his children, Robin Nichol (Jon Thul) of Newell, IA, and Bobby Evans of Newton, IA; five grandchildren: Amy (Shane) Hammen, Nikki (David) Page, Tyler (Shayla) VanZante-Evans, Kirsten (Jake) Fry, and Victoria Evans (Christopher Rogahn); as well as nine great-grandchildren: Madison, McKenzie, Aiden and Isaac Hammen; Lillian Page; Brinley Fry; Gracie and Baylor Fry; and Emersyn Rogahn.
Another great-grandchild, Donovan Van Sante-Evans is expected to join the family (due on March 11, 2024). Robert is also survived by his nieces, Terri, Kim, Angie, Teresa, and Sherrie; nephew, Chuck, Jr.; sister-in-law, Elaine Evans; brother-in-law, Bill (Jeanie) Schlotterback.; and his special hunting buddy, Jake Schlotterback.
Robert is preceded in death by his mother, Ethelyn Evans; his father and stepmom, Harvey and Ruth Evans; siblings Charles Evans, Ruth Jones, Henry Cochran, brothers-in-law Lodus Jones and Merle Schlotterback, Jr.; and nephew, Lodus Jones, Jr.
Memorials may be made in Robert’s memory to the Marion County Humane Society or to Susan Evans.
Robert Harvey Evans will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, humor, and willingness to lend a helping hand will forever be remembered.
