Lynette Dawn Rankin was born August 15, 1962, at the Pella Community Hospital, in Pella, Iowa, the daughter of Loren LaVerne “Pete” Rankin and Louise (Jones) Rankin.

She was the youngest of eight children. Lynette attended Knoxville Community Schools in Knoxville, Iowa, graduating from high school in 1981.

Following in her mother’s 30-year career in food service and nutrition, she then started substituting in food service at the Knoxville Schools in 1982. Lynette served as the head of kitchens at the high school which she was doing at the present time.

For several years, she also worked at the VA After School Program and in the summer she worked security at the Knoxville race track.

Lynette and her sister, Lori, attended hundreds of Knoxville sporting events until their nieces and nephews got old enough to play sports. Their time then was divided between watching sports at several schools.

Lynette passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Knoxville Hospital at the age of 61 years.

Those who will cherish Lynette’s memory include; Linda and her husband, Ron Steenhoek, Lana Rankin, Lauretta and her husband, Jim Utterback of Knoxville, Lyle Rankin of Bondurant, Iowa, Lori Rankin of Knoxville, sister-in-law Kristi (Loren) Rankin of Harvey, Iowa, her nieces and nephews, other family members and many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, ”Pete” and Louise Rankin, sister, LaDonna and her husband, Alvin Godfrey, brother, Loren Rankin, sister-in-law, Barb (Lyle) Rankin, nephew, Lee Rankin, and great-nieces, Layne and Sutton Munsell.
